General description:  Responsibilities include planning and performing audits, while supervising  one or more assistants, instructing them in work to be performed, reviewing the work done, and directing necessary revisions. Senior Accountants perform most work assigned with a minimum of assistance. Seniors are required to make decisions on all but the most unusual accounting and auditing matters.
 
Work experience requirements:  Four (4) to eight (8) years experience in public accounting, including audit experience, demonstrating a progression in complexity, scope, and number of engagements managed. Client contact and the desire to lead and perform tasks with minimum supervision and are required.
 
Education requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of forty hours of continuing professional education annually. 
Required licenses, certificates, or knowledge:
  • Hold a current and valid Certified Public Accountant’s license.
  • Be a member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
  • Proficiency in use of computers and computer accounting and tax software programs.
Essential functions:
  • Perform diversified accounting, auditing, and tax assignments under the direction of supervisor, manager or partner.
  • Demonstrate competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and firm standards.
  • Meet time constraints and client deadlines.
  • Participate in planning and scheduling client engagements.
  • Direct and instruct assistants, where applicable, in work to be performed and working paper review.
  • Prepare and index working papers; perform various procedures established under generally accepted accounting principles to verify the accuracy and validity of client’s financial matters.
  • Prepare the related tax returns in addition to audit, review, and compilation engagements.
  • Suggest client tax planning ideas to supervisors, managers, or partners.
  • Prepare routine correspondence to client for approval and signature of a partner; write comments for management letters.
  • Draft reports including footnotes.
  • Perform the broadest range of accounting tasks so that direct participation of supervisors, managers, or partners is kept to a minimum.
Working conditions:
  • Frequent same day travel for work at client’s offices, meetings, and seminars using personal vehicle.
  • Occasional out-of-town travel with overnight stay for work at clients, meetings, and seminars using personal vehicle.
  • Occasional overtime work required throughout the year. Heavy overtime work required from January to April 15; may be in excess of 55 hours per week.
